Western Family Stock Show

So a couple of weekends ago we got some free tickets to the Western Family Stock Show which is advertised to be a rootin', tootin', fun-filled good time for the whole family. After hearing there was a great petting zoo area and remembering my good-old days at the Weber County fair, wranglers and all, we decided to head out on a Saturday. The stock show was held in a huge area, close to the size of at least two football fields, in multiple buildings, and there were zillions of people. After rustling our way threw the coliseum crowd for what seemed like hours and heading to another building through another sea of cowboys, all with beer in hand, we finally reached this "amazing" petting zoo area. The petting zoo was the size, roughly, of our kitchen with a line stretching to get in and another 102 little children all inside the kitchen-sized petting area feeding goats. Needless to say, we were slightly disappointed but still waited in line to feed the goats, pet the 1 pig, 1 lama, and look at (from behind a steel gate inside the kitchen sized petting area) 2 largish goats. I think I was exposed to a more diverse group of farm animals driving through Milford and Enoch, all of which were domesticated enough to pet. After we did the petting zoo area we decided to walk around a bit and see if we could go see the horses, cows, and pigs that were all up for awards or auction. We had to venture back through the maze of cowboy hats, too-tight wranglers, and lots of cups filled with beer, as well as trillions of booths all selling imported western goods from China. Once we got down to the "stable" area, the fans were blowing so loud and the smell of poop was so great that we decided to ditch the animals and at least grab a funnel cake and some lemonade. Once we entered fresh air we immediately were able to follow the smell of hot, grease-fried bread and wait in line to purchase one for ourselves. After paying 8 dollars for the funnel cake I could no longer afford the lemonade and we all came to the consensus we didn't belong and should head home. Below are a couple of vids capturing some of the insanity.
